Terms of Use
Effective [date]. These terms cover CopyRise and every page on this site.
Who we are
CopyRise is run by Rebel Shed LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company at 414 N Broadway, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572 ("Rebel Shed," "we," "us"). Contact: trisharutten@gmail.com.
What CopyRise is, and isn't
CopyRise is a self-help tool. It helps you fingerprint your files, timestamp them in the Bitcoin blockchain, choose a license, and fill in a license agreement template. Rebel Shed is not a law firm and does not give legal, tax, or financial advice. Using CopyRise does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone. The templates are general and may not fit your situation or the law where you or your licensee live. Have a lawyer review any agreement before you sign it.
Your files stay with you
Your files are processed in your own browser and are never uploaded to Rebel Shed, unless you order the copyright filing service and upload your deposit file yourself. When you stamp a file, its fingerprint (a SHA-256 code) and the details you enter, like the title and your email, go to CopyRise's server. Only the fingerprint is sent to public OpenTimestamps servers and written into the Bitcoin blockchain. Fingerprints are public and permanent and cannot be removed, but they reveal nothing about your file's content. Keep your original files and their .ots proofs safe. A proof only works with the exact original file, and no one, including Rebel Shed, can recreate a lost or changed original. If you lose a .ots proof, CopyRise can give back the copy kept in its database.
Your responsibilities
- Use CopyRise only for work you made or have the right to license, and answer the rights check truthfully.
- You are responsible for the licenses and agreements you make, for following the laws that apply to you, and for your own taxes.
- You must be at least 13. If you're under 18, use CopyRise with a parent or guardian's permission.
- Don't use CopyRise to claim someone else's work, to mislead anyone, or for anything unlawful.
Licenses are between you and your licensee
Any license or agreement you make with CopyRise is between you and the other party. Rebel Shed is not a party to it, does not hold or collect payments for it, and does not enforce it. Payments go directly to you through the payment service you choose.
Other services
CopyRise links to or uses services run by others, including OpenTimestamps, the Bitcoin network, Bitcoin wallets such as Xverse, inscription services such as UniSat, ordinals.com, block explorers, the Internet Archive, FormSubmit, Stripe, Shopify, PayPal, Google Fonts, Google Cloud Vision, Anthropic, Resend, Dropbox, mempool.space, Netlify, and e-signature services. Their own terms and privacy policies apply. We don't control them and can't promise they will stay available. Your proofs remain checkable without any of them.
Stamping, plans, and CopyRise Pro
Checking a proof is free for anyone. Your first work stamped with CopyRise is free, once per email address. After that, stamping a work costs $5, or is included with the Artist plan ($8 a month or $80 a year) or with Pro. A "work" means one piece of work with up to 10 files, like a video and its poster; a $5 stamp covers the work whose fingerprint you paid with. When you stamp, CopyRise keeps your proof in the CopyRise database, sends your proof files and record to your email, and emails the final proof when Bitcoin confirms. If you aren't signed in, we first email you a link to confirm the address, and the proof for a free work is released once you confirm. Plans are used while signed in, with the plan's email. Email can fail, so download your proof from the page as well. Fingerprints, the rights check, free licenses, the AI authorship record, the evidence packet, and the guide are included at no charge.
CopyRise Pro adds the paid license agreement, agreement templates for collaborators, clients, appearance releases, and murals, license pages, and catalog sites. You can buy Pro for one work, which covers that work's paid license agreement, license page, takedown notices, agreement templates, the AI helper, and stamping, but not catalog sites, QR proof cards, copy watch, the buyer assistant, or member prices on registration. Or choose a monthly or yearly plan, which covers every Pro tool and unlimited stamping for every work. Prices are shown before checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe.
Automatic renewal. Artist and Pro plans are subscriptions that renew automatically until you cancel. The Artist plan renews at $8 a month or $80 a year, and the Pro plan at $24 a month or $290 a year, charged to the card you used, at the start of each new period. There's no minimum term. We show these terms before you pay, on the checkout page, and in the email we send after you buy. For yearly plans, we email you before each renewal. If a plan's price changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before the change applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
Cancelling. Cancel anytime online: open the Your plan page at copyrise.ai/plan and press Manage or cancel my plan, which takes you to our payment processor, Stripe, to confirm. You can also email us to cancel. Cancelling stops the next charge, and you keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for. [Refunds: to be decided with counsel.]
After you buy, you get a key. It's for you alone. Don't share or sell it. A plan works with one email address. We may turn off a key that's being shared or misused, and we may limit free works to stop abuse. Pro tools are drafting aids, not legal advice: have a lawyer review any agreement before anyone signs. Agreement templates are general starting points; they may not fit your situation or the law where you or the other party live.
Copyright registration service
You can file one work, or a group of 2 to 10 unpublished works that qualify for the Copyright Office's group registration. In the United States, you can ask Rebel Shed to file your copyright application with the U.S. Copyright Office. You answer the questions, review the application summary, and sign an authorization. That authorization lets Rebel Shed file and certify the application as your authorized agent and pay the Copyright Office fee for you. You are responsible for the truth of your answers. Knowingly making a false statement in a copyright application can lead to a fine of up to $2,500 under 17 U.S.C. 506(e).
The price is one all-in amount that includes the Copyright Office fee, which we pay to the Office for you: $149 for one work and $249 for a group, or $129 and $219 for members of the Artist plan or a monthly or yearly Pro plan (Pro for one work doesn't include member prices). The price is shown before checkout and doesn't change if the Office changes its fee after you pay. A yearly Pro plan includes one registration (one work, or one group) per paid year; it doesn't carry over to the next year, and if we cancel that order before filing, it goes back to your plan. Member and included prices apply while you're signed in with your plan's email. After you pay, you upload the exact file you chose. We check that its fingerprint matches before we file. We copy your answers into the Office's system as you gave them; we don't change your claim or advise you on it. If something is missing or unclear, we'll ask you before filing. We aim to file within five business days after we receive a matching deposit file.
Filing a copyright application is not legal advice, and Rebel Shed is not a law firm. The Copyright Office decides whether to register your work, and it may ask questions, take months, or refuse. Its fees aren't refundable once an application is filed. [Refunds of the service fee before filing: to be decided with counsel.] If your work involves AI-generated material, material owned by others, more than one author, a transfer of rights, or a work made for hire, consider an attorney review before you file.
Accounts and email
An account is optional. If you sign in with an emailed link, CopyRise saves your answers, fingerprints, proofs, and catalog list to its server so you can use them on other devices. It never saves your files, except a deposit file you upload for the filing service. You can sign out anytime, and you can ask us to delete your saved work. We email you only about your account, your orders, and reminders you turn on, and every reminder email says how to turn it off.
Registration reminders are a convenience. They depend on the dates you enter and on email delivery, and they aren't legal advice. Missing one doesn't make Rebel Shed responsible for a deadline.
AI authorship record and AI helper
The AI authorship record is for your own notes and evidence. You are responsible for describing truthfully what you made and what an AI tool made, and for following each AI tool's terms. Summaries of AI tools' terms in CopyRise are a starting point, dated when we checked them; tools change their terms, so read the current version for your plan. The evidence checklist measures your records, not whether the Copyright Office or a court will find human authorship.
The AI helper, part of CopyRise Pro, uses Anthropic's Claude to draft text from your record. It can make mistakes. Read every line before you use or sign it. It is not legal advice.
AI agents
CopyRise offers AI agents that work for you. None of them sends, signs, files, or agrees to anything on its own.
The CopyRise guide is free. It explains the steps and can fill in answers you give it. Check everything it fills in.
Copy watch, part of a monthly or yearly Pro plan, uses Google Cloud Vision to look for pages showing images you choose. It finds many copies, not all, and some results will be fine uses. Only you decide whether something is infringing, and only you send a takedown notice. Add only links to images you have the right to search for.
The buyer assistant, part of a monthly or yearly Pro plan, answers questions on your license page from the facts and prices you give it, and tells buyers it's an AI working for you. It can make mistakes. It is told never to agree to terms, give discounts, or grant a license, and every license still needs a written agreement you sign. You are responsible for the facts and prices you give it, for what you send buyers, and for handling buyers' personal information lawfully. Replies you send through CopyRise come from CopyRise with your email as the reply address, and only after the buyer confirms their email.
Rebel Shed may limit how often the agents run, and may pause an agent that is misused or when your plan ends.
Copyright complaints about CopyRise, and repeat infringers
Use CopyRise only with work you made or have the right to use. If you believe something CopyRise hosts infringes your copyright, follow our Copyright and takedowns policy. Our designated agent under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is listed there. When we receive a valid notice about your content, we may remove it or turn it off and send you a copy of the notice, and you may send a counter-notice. If your account has three upheld notices within 12 months, or a clear and deliberate infringement, we close it as a repeat infringer: your buyer pages are turned off, you can't stamp new works or publish new pages, and any paid plan ends. Proofs already recorded in Bitcoin can't be deleted by anyone, but we remove them from CopyRise's lookups.
Takedown notices
CopyRise can write takedown notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act from the details you enter. They are a self-help template, not legal advice. You review each notice, and you decide whether, where, and to whom to send it. Rebel Shed does not send notices for you or act as your agent.
A takedown notice is a legal statement, and part of it is made under penalty of perjury. Send one only for work you own or are authorized to act for, and only after considering whether the use could be fair use. Under 17 U.S.C. 512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing can be liable for damages. Platforms usually share your notice, including your name and contact details, with the person you report.
The takedown kit for one work is a one-time purchase tied to that work's fingerprint. Pro for that work and the Pro plans include it. [Refunds: to be decided with counsel.]
Public records on Bitcoin
If you choose to inscribe a record with Bitcoin Ordinals, the record you see before inscribing becomes public and permanent on the Bitcoin blockchain. No one, including Rebel Shed, can edit or remove it. You create the inscription from your own wallet or through a service you choose, and you pay the network fee directly. CopyRise never holds your Bitcoin or your wallet keys. If you use Inscribe with Xverse, the same transaction also pays Rebel Shed a CopyRise service fee, shown in your wallet before you approve. Because an inscription can't be undone, that fee isn't refundable once the transaction is sent. Downloading the record to inscribe elsewhere is free. Only inscribe a record for work you own or have the right to license.
Attorney connections
If you ask for an attorney review, we connect you with an independent, licensed attorney. The attorney's advice, fees, and responsibilities are between you and the attorney. Rebel Shed does not provide legal services and does not share in attorneys' fees.
Purchases from Rebel Shed
These cover licenses Rebel Shed sells for its own works, such as Shedo. A payment starts the licensing process. The license begins only when both parties sign the written agreement. If the agreement isn't signed within [30] days of payment for reasons that aren't yours, you get a full refund. Once the agreement is signed, fees are non-refundable except as the agreement says. Questions about a charge: trisharutten@gmail.com.
Ownership of CopyRise
CopyRise's design, text, and code belong to Rebel Shed LLC, apart from the open-source parts listed in its third-party notices. CopyRise and Rebel Shed are trademarks of Rebel Shed LLC. You keep all rights to your own work.
You may use CopyRise for your own work. You may not copy, scrape, or resell CopyRise or its pages, reverse engineer it, get around its limits or paid features, or use it or its outputs to build a competing service. Agreements, notices, and pages that CopyRise makes for you are yours to use for your own work.
No warranty
CopyRise is provided as is. We work to make it accurate and reliable, but we don't promise it will be error-free, always available, or right for your situation, or that any proof, license, or agreement will be accepted by a court, registry, or other party.
Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, Rebel Shed is not liable for indirect, incidental, or lost-profit damages arising from your use of CopyRise, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid Rebel Shed in the 12 months before the claim, or US $100 if you paid nothing.
If there's a claim
You agree to cover Rebel Shed's reasonable costs if someone brings a claim against us because of work you processed or licenses you made with CopyRise, or because you broke these terms.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, USA. We'll try to resolve any dispute informally first; write to us. If that doesn't work, disputes go to the state or federal courts in Minnesota, unless the consumer laws of your country give you the right to bring a claim where you live.
Changes
We may update these terms. The effective date at the top will change, and continued use means you accept the new terms.
